    This fee is NOT applicable to conference presenters with accepted papers and colloquium participants who must adhere to the Society and Conference rules and pay the full fee of US$200.

SCL JAMAICA 2016 21ST BIENNIAL CONFERENCE


The Society for Caribbean Linguistics (SCL) will meet at The University of the West Indies (UWI) in Jamaica from 1 to 6 August 2016 (travel dates 1 & 6 August) for its 21st Biennial Conference. The Conference is hosted by the UWI Department of Language, Linguistics and Philosophy, the Jamaican Language Unit (JLU) and the International Centre for Caribbean Language Research (ICCLR) under the theme "Caribbean Languages to the World".


The conference theme is: "Caribbean Languages to the World." 


Papers, posters and colloquia on all issues and topics related to Caribbean languages will be presented. Caribbean languages include:

 

1) spoken and signed languages, 

2) Amerindian languages, 

3) creole languages, 

4) standardised, official and non-standardised language varieties, 

5) immigrant languages, 

6) heritage languages, 

7) endangered languages, and

8)  religious and ritual languages. 


The conference organisers are welcoming panels and colloquia in the following areas and much, much more.

The Researcher/ Linguist as Public Intellectual
• Language and Education 
• Language Rights
• Language and Music
• Language and Sexuality
• Bilingualism in All Its Manifestations

The Conference will be followed by a visit to the Maroon community of Moore Town on Saturday 6 August 2016.
