CALL FOR PAPERS


The Society for Caribbean Linguistics (SCL) will meet in San Andrés, Colombia from 4th to 6th August 2026 for its 26th Biennial Conference. The Conference will be hosted by the Government of the Department of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina under the theme: Caribbean Languages on the Move: Tracking Changes in Form, Function, and Status.

Abstracts on all types of Caribbean languages as well as Creoles and pidgins in general are invited. Caribbean languages include spoken and signed languages, Amerindian languages, Creole languages, standardised, official and non-standardised language varieties, immigrant languages, heritage languages, endangered languages, and religious and ritual languages. 

Abstracts for both presentations and posters will be accepted. The conference organisers are encouraging abstracts on any of the following panel themes:

  • Digitisation of Heritage Caribbean Languages

  • Caribbean Languages and Reparations

    • Distance to Casa de la Cultura: ~100 meters (approx. 1-minute walk). This hotel is located on the same street.

    • Distance to Casa de la Cultura: ~200 meters (approx. 3-minute walk). It is just around the corner on the main commercial strip.

    • Note: Ideal if you want to be in the middle of the island's nightlife and shopping.

    • Distance to Casa de la Cultura: ~300 meters (approx. 4-minute walk). Located slightly further down Avenida Colón toward the beach.

    • Distance to Casa de la Cultura: ~650 meters (approx. 8 to 10-minute walk). It is located at the point of the island known as Punta Hansa.

Furthermore, the local organizing committee has provided an additional list of Posadas Nativas (Native Lodges/Inns). These locally owned and authentic establishments offer immersive cultural experiences, representing a traditional alternative to conventional hotels. As the most economical lodging options on the island, they are generally accessible via online search platforms. Contact information is available for those wishing to correspond directly with the proprietors. Nightly rates for these accommodations typically range from $30 USD to $70 USD.
